Re: Hey Joe!

Post  Joe on Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:57 pm

I'm doing as well as can be expected. I finally got my powered chair so I am mobile to a point. I can only stay upright in the chair for a little less than three hours a day. This will get longer as the days go by. I still have no feeling from the middle of my chest down but we are still way early in the game. A conservative estimate is anywhere from six weeks to six months IF I get any feeling back. The Navy is being so awesome about this, it's insane. I am now back on active duty until the Docs determine I am able to retire with no outstanding medical issues. The VA is already involved and is working my disability claim already. I will know what my checks will be before I leave rehab. I will keep you guys updated as I get info.

I really want to take some time to thank everyone for all of the inquiries and prayers sent. It really means a lot to me and still makes me tear up when I think about how many people really care about me. If I can ever be of any assistance, please just ask. Thank you all again and God bless you and yours.

Hey guys,
Here is an update. I am currently at home, healing. I am still in the clamshell brace and the power wheelchair, for now. The plan is for me to remain here at home for two months and then go back to the hospital @ Palo Alto and get my back evaluated to ensure the bones are fused together enough for me to begin my rehab. If all goes well, I will be out of the brace, in a manual chair, and be completely independent after two to three months of rehab. I will also be certified to drive (with hand controls installed) and the VA will pay to modify our vehicles.
